David & Heming results from World Team Cup

Australian Men's Team played against Germany in its first match at World Team Cup in Dubai/UAE. As expected, Germany won 3 - 0 with David (WR316) being totally outclassed in his match against WR62, Ruwen Filus losing 11-1, 11-2, 11-5 and Heming (WR508) played Doubles match with Kane Townsend (WR485) but lost in straight sets. There was one bright side to the match where Kane took it right up WR25, Steffen Mengal, losing 3 - 1 and lost one set in deuce.

In the 2nd match, the Men's Team nearly caused a huge upset win over the much higher ranked Brazil, losing 3 - 2 after leading 2 - 0. In the first match Kane Townsend continued his amazing form and had best win of his career by defeating WR76 Cazuo Matsumoto 3-1 then David Powell had his 2nd best win of career by defeating WR134 Thiago Monteiro 3-1. At this stage it looked like a big upset was a realistic chance and a berth in QF against China, but, playing against quality opponents nothing is guaranteed and Brazil fought back and won the Doubles match against Heming & Kane 3-0 then Heming lost to Matsumoto 3-0 (5, 9 ,5) then in the deciding match David lost to WR40 Gustavo Tsuboi 3-0 but not close with games scores being 9, 8, 8. A fantastic effort by the youngest Australian Men's Team for many many years.

The Women's Team had the privilege to play against best in the world in the first match and lost to China 3 - 0.

In the 2nd match the Women's Team, like the Men, played Brazil and put up a good battle losing 3 - 1. The match one was Miao & Melissa winning the Doubles.
