Nicholas 2nd at Aust. Hopes Event

As part of ITTF's plan to create pathway's for players to progress from Primary School age through to Secondary School age then eventually as an adult, they created "World Hopes Week". The Hopes age group is for 11 & 12yr olds. Each continent has a qualifying Event to see which boy & girl will participate in the World Hopes Week where players get together for an ITTF funded training camp for one week.

Oceania's Qualifying Event (Oceania Hopes Challenge) this year is Feb. 8-13 in New Calendonia and this weekend was the Australian Hopes Event (held in Victoria, run by HWATT in Melbourne) to see which male & female player will represent Australia at that Event.

MSTT had 10yr old (turning 11 this year), Nicholas Lum participating. After 3 stages of matches over 2 days, Nicholas finished 2nd overall. It was a great effort as he defeated Aust. Ranked no. 8 U13 boy Isaiah Lee (SA) in the final stage to determine the top 4 positions.

Nicholas will be eligible again next year.
