2013 Australian Singles Champions

William Henzell (SA) and Sally Zhang (NSW) are the country's Open Singles Champions this year for their gender. In the U21 Singles, Kane Townsend (QLD) and Fiona Zhu (NSW) won their age group.

William had a comfortable 4-0 victory over Robbie Frank in final but it was his epic battle with MSTT player/coach, David Powell, that nearly caused him to have his first loss in this tournament for 9 years. David lead 3 sets to 2 and 8-2 in the 6th before William fought back and won 12-10 then 11-6 in the 7th set. William has won the National Singles title every year since 2005. Recent addition to MSTT coaching team, Russell Lavale was the last person, in 2004, to beat William at this tournament.

Sally Zhang defeated Miao Miao 4-0 in the Women's final and went through the event untroubled losing only one set through the draw. Miao made the final after a great struggle in the SF against National Team member, Vivian Dederko, and won 4-3.

In the U21 Men's, Kane had another great tussle with MSTT player, Heming Hu, and won 4-3 after being 2-0 up, then 2-3 down before winning the last 2 sets 11-3 and 11-5. Heming has had the upper hand in recent years but Kane has stepped up and won this important match. Kane also had a career highlight during the week by defeating William Henzell in the Men's Team Event. Not many players have acheived this over the last 12 years as William has been clearly a notch above the rest, so all credit to Kane.

In the U21 Women's, Fiona Zhu defeated Kai Peng 4-0 in the final. Fiona defeated Vy Bui 4-1 in a close SF match while Kai also had a close 4-1 win over Anna Du.
