After winning the Oceania Cup, William qualified to play in the Men's World Singles Cup in Belgium from Oct. 25-27. Only 20 players from around the world are permitted to play this annual event and includes the continental champions plus the top 10 world ranked and 4 others.
William (WR 135) played some great matches but couldn't quite crack it for a win. He lost to Peng Tang (WR 20) 4-2, then after leading 3-0 succumbed to the gritty Indian, Kamal Shirath Achanta (WR 47), 4-3. This is the same scoreline William lost to Kamal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games Men's Singles Final.
A huge effort by William given he has worked full-time since the London Olympics and unable to train the necessary amount of hours required to improve or maintain the level needed for International TT.
