Mark Smythe Table Tennis

Australia's no. 1 coach

Darcie Morton qualifies for Oceania Cadet (U15) Team and David Powell named as one of the two Coaches

MSTT player, Darcie Morton finished 3rd (equal 2nd on wins and losses) in the Oceania Cadet Qualificiation (played in New Caledonia) and qualified for the Oceania Cadet Team (4 players) where only one player from each country can make the team. Along the way, she beat fellow Australian Antonia Zhang (NSW) 3-1 to secure her spot as the country's rep. in the team.

Darcie will travel to Slovenia with the Oceania Team in late October to compete at the World Cadet Challenge from Oct. 26 - Nov. 3. This is a great achievement for Darcie who lives 5 hours out of Melbourne where the strength of the sport is within Victoria. She has travelled and boarded in Melbourne on average twice a month for the last 4 months and works very hard while being coached by Mark Smythe & David Powell, training with other MSTT players and playing State Junior Tournaments. Darcie has done all this while maintaining high grades academically.

MSTT Coach, David Powell, was selected as one of the two coaches who will look after the boys and gilrs team. David made his international debut as a player at this event in 2006 and now 7 years later makes his international debut as a coach. Ironically, Mark Smythe made his international debut as a coach at the same event in 2003 when it was held in Malaysia.
